Goal calculator

How much to invest monthly to reach a target amount.

%
years

Invest every month

₹19,819

about ₹19,819

36% of that is money you put in.

You would put in over the period
₹35,67,352
Growth would add
₹64,32,648
Target
₹1,00,00,000
This is arithmetic, not a forecast. The result applies numbers you chose. Real returns vary year to year, can be negative, and are never guaranteed. Unless stated otherwise the figure is before inflation and before tax.

How this calculation works

A goal calculator works the SIP formula backwards. You state the amount you want and the time you have, and it solves for the monthly contribution that would reach it at the assumed rate.

What it leaves out

The output is very sensitive to the assumed return. A goal that looks comfortable at 14% can look unreachable at 9%, and nobody knows which you will get. Run it at a cautious rate before deciding the plan is workable.

Understanding the thing itself matters more than the number: Asset allocation.

Common questions

What if the monthly amount is more than I can invest?
Three levers exist: invest for longer, target a smaller amount, or accept more risk for a higher expected return. Be most careful with the third, because assuming a higher return does not create one.
Should I use this for retirement?
Use the retirement calculator first to work out the target, because retirement needs an inflation adjustment that this calculator does not apply. Then bring that figure back here.
What if my goal is only three years away?
Then equity is probably the wrong place for it, and this calculator will mislead you. Money needed within three years belongs in a debt fund or a deposit, where the amount is predictable, even though the projected total looks smaller.
